Is Teofimo Just A Hype-Train? And A New Breed Of Combat Sports Has Just Arrived!

On Saturday 28th November, George Kambosos Jr. shocked the boxing world with a victory by split decision against the undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, probably the biggest upset in boxing in 2021, turning the tide of the lightweight division. "I put him on his ass," Kambosos told ESPN. "From that, I totally changed the fight straight away. He was hesitant. We boxed very smart, and you know what I showed? My boxing skills. I showed what a true champion is, to come back and win the fight and close it in great fashion." Kambosos floored Lopez in the first round and survived a 10th-round knockdown to secure the victory over the former undisputed champion who beat Vasily Lomachenko.

Lopez, 24, claimed to have won ten rounds and was greeted with boos as he claimed weight-drained. Lopez, who entered the fight Saturday night as ESPN's No. 7 pound-for-pound boxer, said, "I don't care what anyone thinks, I won tonight." "I've been here and done it, at the end of the day. Look, I'm not a bitter loser; I take my victories as seriously as I do my defeats. I'm a true champion at the end of the day. I came out here, did what I needed to do, and then went out there and gave it my all. This is the takeover: we're not going to stop; we're going to keep coming."

Lopez will undoubtedly be out of the ring for some time, based on how his face was marked up and the slashes above both eyes.

What was supposed to be a chance for Lopez to restore momentum after 13 months away from the ring ended up being a disaster. Outside of the ring, he's shown he's tough, but he's about to face his most formidable challenge yet. So what will he do after suffering his first professional defeat and being knocked from his throne as the unified world champion? The winner of next week's fight between Haney and Joseph Diaz Jr. is the leading possibility. But there are also marquee matchups with Davis and Ryan Garcia that could be on the table for Kambosos.

Triller produces a brand new combat sport that mixes boxing with mixed martial arts called Triad Combat on the other side of the spectrum. Triad Combat uses a Triangle Ring, MMA hybrid gloves, and the rules are boxing with superman punches & spinning back fists allowed in competition and numerous clinches that can be used in a fight. Two teams are represented: Team MMA & Team Boxing led by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson & Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs, Kubrat Pulev squares off against former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in a heavyweight contest in the main event. He was on his feet after taking several left hands from Pulaev, but he was knocked out long before referee Dan Miragliotta intervened at the 1:59 mark of the first round to prevent more punishment. A former UFC welterweight, Mike Perry fought back from a knockdown in the fourth round of his Triad Combat debut to win a split decision over veteran boxer Michael Seals.
