Is Mario Wirawan the next big thing in One Pride MMA? Cowboy Cerrone’s last ride in MMA. HWKY : This Week in Combat Sports

This week does not offer much in combat sports, but we have two excellent MMA cards worth discussing. One Pride MMA finally opens its door to fans this Sunday at Tennis Indoor Senayan for the card that features the interim title on the line. Due to Gugun Gusman’s participation in the “Road To UFC,” Mario Satya Wirawan will face Alfiandi for the Interim bantamweight championship.

Mario has never lost in the One Pride arena, and now he will face his most formidable opponent in Alfiandi, a striker who has competed in kickboxing and MMA, known for his powerful strikes and combination. Mario will have to utilize his grappling and striking combination to defeat and secure a victory by stoppage or by a decision to earn his Interim strap and face Gugun to become the undisputed One Pride Bantamweight champion.

Mario is known as a complete fighter in the cage. He also is the head coach for the notorious team ASTA in Bogor. With his exceptional background and physical skills in the cage, will he become the next One Pride superstar to succeed Suwardi, Theo, and Ahong?? We have to find out this Saturday.

Meanwhile, in the States, The UFC is back with another fight night headlined by Calvin Kattar and the rescheduled bout between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Joe Lauzon. After taking a full year off following his loss to Max Holloway at the start of 2021, Kattar kicked off 2022 winning a one-sided, unanimous decision win over formidable striker Giga Chikadze.

Josh Emmet has won four straight since dropping his initial primary event assignment against Jeremy Stephens. Saturday’s contest is critical for Kattar and Emmett as they look to work into the championship conversation. “Taken from the UFC fight-by-fight preview.

And finally, After getting canceled from UFC 274 at the 11th hour, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone returns to the 155-pound weight class to square off with Joe Lauzon, maybe for the final time.

The veteran gunslinger has talked about still having the passion for competing, but his body is no longer holding up the way it used to, which could mean the final ride of Cerrone’s career is on the horizon.

Joe Lauzon returns for the first time since collecting a first-round stoppage victory over Jonathan Pearce at home in Boston in October 2019. the former Ultimate Fighter contestant and all-action stalwart will step back into the Octagon to tangle with Cerrone on Saturday night.

they’ll indeed have a competitive, entertaining bout together this weekend. “Cowboy” is destined for the UFC Hall of Fame whenever he hangs up his spurs, and Lauzon is an all-time “fighter’s fighter” who also deserves enshrinement.
