Canelo’s Quest For Unification
They say everything is bigger in Texas… and it doesn’t get bigger and better than this: Canelo Alvarez (55-1-2) vs Billy Joe Saunders (30-0). This Cinco de Mayo weekend is set to be the night of unification, as both fighters are fighting to claim their spot in the history books.
With both WBA and WBC super middleweight title under him, current boxing poster child, Alvarez, is looking to snatch Saunders’ WBO title in Arlington. After his commanding win against Avni Yıldırım, Canelo is dead-set on being the first Mexican in 168-weight class to unify the super-middleweight. Either way, whoever wins it will definitely challenge IBF champion, Caleb Plant, to be the undisputed super middleweight champ.
Will it be Alvarez, winning it in probably one of the most celebrated weekends in North America? Or will Saunders crash the party? Only time will tell. All we know is that it’ll be a good day for the boxing world.
