Makhachev Dominates & Cupcake Is Back In Business
Saturday, July 17th, 2021, The UFC is back at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas for UFC Fight Night, which features the dominating performance of Khabib Nurmagomedov's training partner Islam Makhachev against Thiago Moises. He won by submission due to a rear-naked choke in the 4th round. The fight was a 4 round performance of technical prowess on the ground game of Makhachev. However, Islam was starting very slow & experimenting with his striking in the early rounds. Moises was defending takedowns, submission attempts & only successfully controlling a little bit in the striking exchanges. And with the win by Islam, it looks like the UFC lightweight division has a new contender emerging; Makhacev immediately calls out Rafael Dos Anjos in the post-fight interview for his next fight. With the performance of Islam Makhachev, the lightweight division is officially becoming the division filled with dangerous & hungry fighters in the UFC.
The co-main event features the comeback of UFC veteran Miesha "Cupcake" Tate in her octagon return since 5 years ago, where she retired against Raquel Pennington in a losing effort. Miesha said in the pre-fight interview that she was dealing with many issues & toxicity in her environment leading to her retirement, but now she feels she is fresh & ready to go back to chase the UFC gold. She proved it against fellow veteran Marion Reneau. Miesha & Reneau was technical in their fight, with Miesha initiating takedowns & Reneau landing strikes. Still, in the end, Miesha was much faster & accurate in the fight and finally landing a TKO finish in the 3rd round by way of ground & pound after successfully taking down Reneau from the cage and controlling the top position. After the fight, Miesha states she was thrilled with the win & ready for the next challenge while Reneau declared her retirement in the sport she has been in for a long time.
With the rise of Islam Makhacev & the return of Miesha Tate, it looks like the UFC will be very interesting moving forward. So what are your thoughts on today's fight night? Comment down below & share this article with your friends!
