The Ukrainian Upsets The United Kingdom

Oleksandr Usyk destroyed, dominated, and outboxed the reigning WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua with a unanimous decision on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The British heavyweight cannot keep up or adjust to the footwork and the precise jabs of the cruiserweight champion for all of the 12 rounds in the bout.

Usyk hurt Joshua in the 3rd & 7th rounds and almost finished Joshua late in the 12th round. "A devastating defeat," Eddie Hearn said. "Usyk is very fit, he's got great feet, he threw a lot of punches. It was a tough defeat. [Joshua] got beat by the better man on the night. Usyk will now be in the world's eyes as he will bring back all of the belts to Ukraine after brothers Vitali & Vladimir Klitschko dominated the division from 2004 to 2015. The fight went exactly the way I expected it to go," Usyk said.

"There were times when Anthony pushed me hard but nothing special. I had no objective to knock him out. My corner pushed me not to do that. You didn't see the best Usyk. I can be much better."

With Usyk's win against Joshua, the biggest fight in modern heavyweight boxing history seems to be a pipedream, or it will not be as anticipated as before. Usyk is now one of the three best pound-for-pound boxers globally, along with Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, and the second-best heavyweight in boxing after Fury. As Usyk stakes his claim to the No. 2 spot in the heavyweight division, the best fight for him is a matchup with the winner of Fury-Wilder III.
