Pereira Dismantles Everyone: The Aftermath of UFC 307
The night of UFC 307, live from Delta Center in Salt Lake City, will be remembered for its electrifying action and dramatic finishes. Headlined by Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Khalil Rountree Jr., the event left fans thrilled and craving more.
In the main event, Pereira faced an unexpectedly tough challenge from Rountree. The Las Vegas native's speed and southpaw stance kept Pereira on edge, landing the most significant shots in the early rounds. However, as the fight wore on, Pereira found his rhythm. By the fourth round, he had figured out Rountree's timing and range, leading to a decisive TKO victory at 4:32 of the fourth round. Pereira's striking accuracy and power proved too much for Rountree to handle, breaking him down systematically before delivering the final blows along the cage.
Pereira has now defended his title three times this year, a remarkable feat in itself, and extended his UFC record to 9-1. His dominance across two divisions cements his place as one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport today. Despite the loss, Rountree Jr. earned respect for his resilience and heart in the bout, after receiving a huge laceration in the right side of his face due to a jab by Pereira.
The co-main event saw Julianna Peña reclaim her status as UFC women's bantamweight champion with a narrow split decision over Raquel Pennington. It was a tactical battle between two elite fighters, with Peña dominating on the ground while Pennington showcased her striking ability. After five close rounds, Peña edged out a victory by securing the first three rounds on two of the scorecards.
Other highlights of the night included Mario Bautista's split decision win over UFC legend José Aldo, which extended Bautista’s win streak to seven. The younger fighter’s pressure and diverse attack proved to be the difference against the Brazilian icon, although Aldo had his moments and seemingly winning the bout, the judges gave the decision to Bautista, Dana White has said in the press conference that the judging was horrible in this event.
Roman Dolidze also shone on the card, defeating Kevin Holland by TKO after an unfortunate rib injury forced Holland to withdraw at the end of the first round. Dolidze continues his rise in the middleweight ranks, showcasing his ground control and power once again. Kayla Harrison rounded out the main card with a unanimous decision victory over Ketlen Vieira. Though Harrison dominated for most of the fight, Vieira proved tougher than expected, landing heavy shots in the second round. Harrison's wrestling and control in the third, however, sealed her victory and likely secured a future title shot.
UFC 307 will go down as another exhilarating night of combat sports, with Alex Pereira once again proving why he’s one of the most feared champions in the UFC today. His ability to adjust mid-fight and finish opponents continues to raise the bar in the light heavyweight division. For now, it’s safe to say Pereira dismantled everyone in his path.
