Article: London Takeover!

London Takeover!

London Takeover!

Last Sunday, UFC Fight Night in the 02 Arena was an absolute success as the pay-per-view was filled with a lively British crowd who wanted to support their hometown heroes.

Tom Aspinall is certified to be the next heavyweight superstar. He performs remarkably well against Alexander Volkov, probably the best performance in his UFC career, and a capacity crowd at the O2 Arena. Aspinall was landing quick punching, executing excellent footwork, and finally submitting Volkov with a straight armlock from side control in the 1st round to earn a submission victory.

Aspinall spoke with Michael Bisping moments in the post-fight interview having his hands raised and issued a challenge to Tai Tuivasa. "First thing, somebody buys me a beer. Second, we drink beer in the U.K., not just in Australia. So Mr. Tai Tuivasa, next time you come to the U.K., next time we're in the U.K., let's do it, bro. I'm ready for you."

Paddy Pimblett returns in action spectacularly. Pimblett scored a first-round submission win over Rodrigo Vargas on the main card of UFC London at the O2 Arena.

Pimblett had a rough start, absorbing an early knockdown from Vargas's significant underdog. However, Pimblett worked out of the bottom position and eventually secured Vargas' back. Buoyed by the raucous support of his fellow Englishmen, Pimblett locked in a rear-naked choke. Vargas tapped moments later, and the crowd overwhelmed the arena with their ovation. "See this arena, the O2? It's too small," Pimblett told UFC commentator Michael Bisping in the post-fight interview. "Too small. Get me a stadium. Get me to Anfield and we'll fill it."

Arnold Allen earned respect with his performance in the co-main event. The Englishman delivered in a big way with his stoppage of Dan Hooker looked to reinvent himself down a weight class. However, Allen made short work of Hooker on Saturday in a matchup where both men were rocked throughout half a round. Allen and Hooker came out swinging. The Englishman generally caught the better of his counterpart, pressing forward with looping punches. Hooker bit down on his mouthpiece and fired back, clipping Allen badly at one point in the exchange. Allen refused to back down and whipped more shots towards Hooker. The fight slowed down before Allen stepped up and swarmed Hooker. The referee saw enough and waved off the contest as Hooker covered up against the fence.

Allen called out a top-five featherweight opponent next. Then, Allen suggested that he and Calvin Kattar could put on a fun fight.
