"Laga Di Khatulistiwa" Recap

In a thrilling bout dubbed the 'Laga Di Khatulistiwa,' Indonesian boxer Daud Yordan secured a knockout victory in the ninth round against Argentine fighter Hernan Leandro Carrizo. The fight, held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at GOR Terpadu Ayani in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, saw Daud Yordan crowned the International Boxing Association (IBA) World Super Lightweight Champion.

With an impressive record of 42 wins (30 by KO), 4 losses, and 1 no contest, Daud Yordan faced off against Carrizo, who came into the ring with 18 wins (8 by KO), 1 loss, and 1 no contest.

The fight opened with Daud Yordan landing a sharp left hook to Carrizo’s face in the first round, immediately testing his opponent’s defense with fast and precise combinations. Carrizo, however, wasn’t fazed and began taking the offensive as the second round progressed. A low blow from Yordan momentarily caused a break in the action, but the bout continued without major disruption.

In the third round, Yordan’s right straight briefly sent Carrizo stumbling, followed by a powerful right hook that backed the Argentine boxer into a corner. Both fighters engaged in a fierce exchange of punches towards the end of the round.

As the fight moved into the fourth round, Carrizo capitalized on Yordan’s brief struggle with a nosebleed, intensifying his attacks in close quarters. Daud responded with solid uppercuts, managing to shift the momentum despite being pressured on the ropes.

The sixth round was briefly paused when Yordan’s glove strap loosened and needed adjustment. Once the action resumed, Carrizo continued to press Yordan, pushing him to the ropes with rapid-fire punches.

Yordan shifted gears in the seventh round, launching an offensive and cornering Carrizo, though he absorbed some heavy blows as the round concluded.

The fight was again paused in the eighth round due to the slippery ring surface, which required a quick cleanup. Carrizo's relentless speed and aggression continued to trouble Yordan, who found himself backed against the ropes once more. But Yordan fought back with a series of powerful hooks to Carrizo's face, leaving the Argentine on shaky legs as the bell saved him from further damage.

By the ninth round, Yordan's precision paid off. A flurry of hooks overwhelmed Carrizo, leading to a knockout victory and securing Yordan’s place as the IBA World Super Lightweight Champion. At 38 years old, Yordan proved that he remains a force to be reckoned with in the ring.

This triumph adds another victory to Yordan’s illustrious career and showcases his enduring resilience and tactical brilliance on the global boxing stage.

Also in the opener, Indonesian boxer Ongen Saknosiwi delivered an impressive TKO win over India's Shiva Sharma in the opening bout of the 'Battle of the Equator' event. The fight took place at GOR Terpadu Ayani in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, serving as the lead-up to the main event between Daud Yordan and Hernan Leandro Carrizo.

Ongen entered the ring with an unblemished record of 11 wins, 9 of which came by knockout, while Shiva Sharma was making his professional boxing debut.

The fight began cautiously, with Shiva utilizing straight punches to maintain distance from Ongen by the third round. Ongen responded with a sharp left hook that unsettled the 20-year-old Indian fighter.

As the fourth round unfolded, Ongen cornered Shiva with a series of combination punches, forcing the debutant to rely on counters, landing a solid right straight to Ongen’s face.

Shiva came out more aggressively in the fifth round, using his footwork to stay at range. Ongen, however, continued to close the gap and unleashed fast, powerful punches to pressure his opponent.

In the sixth round, Shiva briefly lost balance after absorbing a punch but quickly regained his footing. Ongen seized the moment, landing successive right straights that left Shiva in trouble.

By the end of the sixth round, Shiva’s corner threw in the towel, signaling his withdrawal and granting Ongen a TKO victory. This win added to Ongen's undefeated streak, further establishing him as a rising star in Indonesian boxing.

Numerous celebrities and important people in the nation also attended the event, such as Celloz, the CEO of Byon Combat and Comedian Komeng also offered support to Daud and Ongen.

Ongen and Daud uses our Hawkeye Official Pro Fight Gloves for the event, which are approved by the California State Atheletic Commision.
