Khamzat Vs. Burns Brings War In The Cage And Saves UFC 273 From Being A Snoozefest.
UFC is back in the Jacksonville Arena for UFC 273: Volkanovski Vs. Zombie in front of a packed arena filled with UFC fans ready to see the best in the world compete against each other. They received one of the best fights this year in Khamzat Chimaev vs. Gilbert Burns, a back and forth battle filled with knockdowns and grit in the span of 3 rounds.
Both fighters come into the fight with different agendas; Chimaev, who is rising in popularity because of his dominating performances in the octagon, while Burns was coming to prove that he is worthy of being the #2 ranked welterweight in the UFC. The welterweights brought everything in the cage for over 15 minutes, with Chimaev cut, bleeding, and hurt at times, but he also returned fire in every exchange as he stunned Burns several times on the feet. When it was over, Chimaev earned the unanimous decision, but he paid homage to Burns afterward for pushing him to the limit and giving him everything.
“F**** tough guy,” Chimaev said about his opponent. “I didn’t know he was so tough. Thank you for this fight, Gilbert. I love you brother, all respect. He did three rounds strong. I f****** worked hard for everything. That guy was f****** good today. “I’m happy. These are the things I was waiting for a long time. Now I’m bloody. I’m tired. I feel a little bit of pain. I love this s***.” Burns, has no regrets about taking the risk to fight Chimaev “I don’t care, I come in here to fight,” Burns said. “I go against the odds. I was No. 2, I’ll fight anyone. The odds against you, everybody’s against you but I have a huge heart. I’m going to keep fighting.”
Burns proved in this fight that he has the fighting mentality to push forward in the fight. With his hooks and relentless power in his shot and his impressive grappling arsenal, Burns has won the heart of the fans, and someday he will have another go at welterweight gold. As far as Chimaev, the rumor is that he will face Colby Covington to climb to the #1 spot to meet the P4P champion, Kamaru Usman.
The rest of the card was an absolute snoozefest, as this card was just filled with the dominating performance of Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski to retain his featherweight belt by referee stoppage against the stagnant Korean Zombie. And Aljamain Sterling won by unanimous decision against interim champ Petr Yan by taking the back position and breaking down Yan by running, slipping, and holding him for 5 rounds.
GGG Is Still The Man! and Ryan Garcia Gave A Mediocre Performance
In the world of boxing, Gennady Golovkin returns after a lengthy layoff to fight in the Saitama Super Arena in Japan against Olympic Champion and titleholder Ryota Murata for the WBA, IBF, and IBO middleweight belt, Billed as the “Big Drama In Japan.” the fight did not disappoint in bringing drama in the ring, as GGG and Murata gave shot after shot, with Murata slowing down GGG with a body shot up until the middle point of the fight, Golovkin finally took the momentum and his veteran skills to punish Murata with strikes that ultimately ended in Round 9 Murata finally receive a TKO blow from Golovkin to end the match. With this victory at the age of 40, Golovkin has earned the right to clash against Canelo Alvarez for the 3rd time. We will see what happens next as some critics say that Canelo can easily make a victory with a performance like this because Golovkin looked slow and sloppy.
On the other side of the world, Ryan Garcia returns to the ring after a hiatus in the ring to fight against Emannuel Tagoe in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. It was not a highlight performance by both fighters, as Tagoe was already in survival mode against Garcia since the first round. At the same time, Garcia did not show any improvements or significant changes in his style. Garcia finally won the fight by unanimous decision in probably one of the blandest performances in Ryan Garcia’s career.
