It’s already August. Feels like January was just a few minutes ago.

A lot has happened. From working with BYON to everything happening behind the scenes, it’s been a hectic few months. Events are growing. The local scene is picking up. More fighters, creators, and brands are connecting. There’s momentum again.
Jakarta feels different too. You walk into any gym now and there’s always something going on.Boxing, Hyrox, Zycle. And lately, padel. A lot of padel. That one caught me off guard. You used to see people with wraps and athletic wear on their hands. Now it’s wristbands and racquets. Still, it’s good to see people moving, trying new things, building better habits.
But I do wonder. What happens when the excitement fades? Who’s still training when no one’s watching? Who keeps showing up when it’s not the trendy thing to do?
That’s where combat sports stand apart. They’re not always pretty. Sometimes they’re brutal. But they demand consistency and focus. You don’t get good at boxing, jiu-jitsu, or kickboxing by accident. You don’t even stay in shape by accident.
That’s what makes it real.
To everyone still waking up early, still hitting the bag on a Friday night, still choosing the hard route even when the easy one looks better, keep going. It’s about building something that lasts. Something that sharpens you.
So, how’s your year been?
You’re eight months in. What goals did you set back in January? Are you sticking with them? Did life get in the way? Are you happy with where you are?
Whatever the answer, there’s still time.
Don’t waste what’s left.
