Indonesia Takes Center Stage In One Championship
What's up? I hope you are having a great day because there are a few exciting updates in the fight world for you!
Adrian Mattheis Made His Country Proud!
Last Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Adrian Mattheis surprised the crowd with a stunning knockout finish against former ONE strawweight world champion Alex "Little Rock" Silva with a right hand that sent Alex Silva's face to the canvas. The referee made a controversial stoppage for finishing the fight too early as Silva was still conscious and complaining to the ref that he was okay. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic and probably historic night in Indonesian MMA. Never before did an athlete from Indonesia ever face a great challenge and succeed with a knockout finish in One Championship.
In the main event, Thanh Lee viciously knocked out Gary Tonon to retain the ONE Featherweight belt after a series of hard ground and pounds that struck "The Lion Killer," who was attempting to secure a leg lock finish. Next, the co-main event saw John Lineker defeating the bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes with a knockout victory in the 2nd round after both warriors traded in shots after shots. And finally, Evolve MMA's Indonesia athlete Eko Roni Saputra finishes a tough Cambodian fighter known to destroy Indonesian hype trains Chan Rothana with a rear-naked choke. With that finish, Eko Roni proves to the world that he is a legit contender in the flyweight division and request to fight a top 5 contender in the rankings.
MMA Prospects Take Center Stage
Former Glory kickboxing champion Alex Perera, Magomed Ankaliev, Drew Dober, Adam Borics, Song Yadong, Khalil Roundtree Jr, and Phill Davis takes the spotlight this week in UFC and Bellator as all of these athletes made knockout and dominating finishes/performances in their respective events, with new faces entering the elite competition.
Leigh Wood Vs. Mick Conlan: Candidate For Best Fight In 2022
Leigh Wood made a stunning comeback to stop Michael Conlan with a brutal knockout in the 12th round and retain his WBA "regular" world featherweight title Saturday in front of his home city crowd at the Nottingham Arena. For the second successive fight, Wood clinched the victory in the final round. Still, the dramatic finish was overshadowed by immediate concern for Conlan, who fell backward through the ropes and off the ring apron. Conlan was treated by medics at ringside and quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was conscious and stable. Both fighters produced one of the best, high-action, high drama fights that exceeded expectations.
